Presenting anti-corruption practices and models – comparison and ways for countering corruption

At the invitation of the Administration of the President of the Republic of Bulgaria, the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry took part in an international conference on theme “European Practices and Ways for Countering Corruption”. The forum viewed practices for fighting corruption and compared acting anti-corruption models in Europe as well as legislative measures within different European states regulating the interaction between the anti-corruption bodies and the prosecutor’s office .

Renowned experts from Bulgaria, the United Kingdom, Italy, Estonia and Croatia, as well as representatives of the Bulgarian institutions committed to countering corruption, took part in the event. The President of BCCI Tsvetan Simeonov also was among the official guests of the event.

At the opening of the conference, the President of the Republic of Bulgaria Rumen Radev said that “Corruption seriously damages our society, because it gets a hold on the main levers of the legislative, the executive and the judiciary authority, subordinating them to state interests”. According to him, the strong interest in the conference demonstrated by the representatives of various institutions is a good sign and shows willingness to tackle the problem.

BCCI reminded of the results of the survey “Corruption – an obstacle to business”, which show that corruption in the public institutions is among the most serious obstacles to business and investment in our country.

Guided by the ambition to protect the interests of the business and to prevent corrupt practices, BCCI accepts signals for wrongful practices and takes upon itself to submit them to the respective competent authorities and to trace the sender’s legitimacy.
