BCCI: Development of entrepreneurial skills should be a priority of education

The need to introduce training in entrepreneurship in the initial stages of school training was discussed at a meeting between the President of BCCI, Tsvetan Simeonov and the Director of the National High School in Finance and Business, Ivan Arsov. The High School is descendent of the Sofia High School of Commerce for Boys, which was founded in 1913 with the initiative and financial support of the Sofia Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The high school has experience in forming entrepreneurial skills as part of the Bulgarian – Austrian Educational Project and for 10 years was training youths in the specialty “Entrepreneur – Manager” and transferred its experience to schools all over the country. As of 2007/2008 school year, however, this specialty was abolished and now the last class of students in the programme is graduating.

During the meeting it was agreed to join efforts for the introduction of early entrepreneurial training, for application of innovative and practical forms of education and training, which will help students acquire basic economic knowledge, be better orientated in their choice of profession and learn creative thinking and initiative. For this purpose, an analysis of the current state and the results from entrepreneurial training in Bulgarian schools will be conducted, together with international experience and good practices in this field. Based on it, proposals to the Ministry of Education, Youth and Science will be developed to restore the “Entrepreneur – Manager” specialty, to update school programmes with the respective number of classes, as well as to train teachers in up-to-date methods for acquisition of entrepreneurial skills.
