“Support for Debut” presented revived crafts at BCCI
Masters and apprentices received Certificates for successfully completed stage of training
Association “Support for Debut” presented young talents at BCCI. The reenactment of a traditional crafts gathering included a demonstration of skills learned by the participants in the project “Artistic Crafts – Field for Expression of Young Talents” in the knitting, ceramics, embroidery, artistic leather and fur processing and carpet weaving workshops.
At the presence of masters and guests, the young talents dressed in adapted national costumes /made by one of the trainers, the renowned designer Svetla Dimitrova/ knitted, embroidered, created unconventional clay and leather articles using traditional techniques learned during the workshops. A selection of pieces created during their training was displayed in the hall and impressed the guests with the interesting ideas and high quality of execution. At a video wall stills and photos of the carpet workshop in Chiprovtsi were projected.
The dancers from “Filip Kutev” Ensemble helped experience the beauty of the traditional atmosphere.
“By reviving traditional arts and crafts, the masters and apprentices in this Programme will join the ranks of the light part of Bulgarian economy”, said the Secretary General of BCCI Vasil Todorov in his welcoming remarks.
The journalist Slavka Hinkova, President of NGO “Support for Debut” informed the guests of the aims of the project – to motivate young people to get acquainted with the respective crafts, learn traditional crafts skills, express their creativity and in this way to preserve Bulgarian traditions. In order to establish a link between the generations, the youths should learn from the experience of the masters, and the masters should draw inspiration from youth and continue to create and set their example.
Finally, the masters and apprentices receive Certificates for successfully completed stage of training.
The initiative was organized with the support of the European Union and the “Youth in Action” Programme.
