GS1 Bulgaria took part in the GS1 Global Forum in Brussels

In the period 10 – 13 February in Brussels the GS1 Global Forum - the annual “must-attend” event for the GS1 global “family” - was held. More than 670 representatives of the national GS1 member organizations from 86 countries attended the forum. Bulgaria participated with a delegation led by Tsvetan Simeonov, President of BCCI and Chairman of the GS1 Bulgaria Board with BCCI.

The unique five-day event combined plenary sessions, inspirational presentations by industry leaders, topic-focused workshops, sharing sessions, strategic project meetings and a lively Market Place Expo.

At the Forum was presented how GS1 is meeting the unique needs of core industries - retail, healthcare and transport & logistics, and several key emerging sectors. Some of the topics in focus were:
  • omni-channel retailing
  • data quality
  • standards implementation efficiency
  • global business technology trends, etc.
Special attention was paid to the implementation of GS1 standards in humanitarian logistics – tracking the transport vehicles and ensuring speed of delivery in situations of crisis and in hard to reach places.

When discussing the marketing strategy for a common vision and global brand of all national GS1 member organizations, the GS1 Bulgaria Council with BCCI was pointed out as a good example of active progress achieved in updating the website design.

Participation in the Forum engaged and inspired the attendees and aligned GS1 on a shared global strategy. In his closing remarks Miguel Loppera, President of GS1 said that high activity for the implementation of GS1 standards globally was registered, but the GS1 community could in fact do a lot more. With its unique structure which includes representatives of various cultures and intertwines knowledge of different areas, the community has actual chances for development and innovation.
