First presentation of the priorities of the Danish EU Council Presidency.
Tsvetan Simeonov was re-elected as member of the Board of Directors of EUROCHAMBRES for 2012.
The President of BCCI Tsvetan Simeonov took part in the Plenary Assembly of the Association of European Chambers of Commerce and Industry (EUROCHAMBRES) in Brussels and the regular meeting of the Board of Directors of the Association. He was re-elected as member of the Board of Directors of EUROCHAMBRES for 2012.
The former President Alessandro Barberis (President of Turin Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Italy) once again gained the trust of participants and won the election for President of the Association. Representatives of the Chambers of Commerce of Austria, Luxembourg and Turkey were elected as Deputy Presidents.
A thorough overview of the activity of the Association, which is aimed at making quality changes in the European legal framework, improving institutional procedures and promoting various programmes, was made. Some examples of these campaigns include: continuing the programme for increasing competitiveness of SMEs after 2013 – the Programme co-finances Enterprise Europe Network; conducting reforms in the Framework Programme for Research and Innovation “Horizion2020”; proposing amendments to the Late payments Directive, the Services Directive and other EU documents. In 2011, EUROCHAMBRES has worked to encourage cooperation between the chambers of commerce of EU member-states and Turkey through various programmes and events.
The Programme of EUROCHAMBRES for next year will include organizing the European Parliament of Enterprises, in which 18 Bulgarian business representatives chosen by special criteria will participate. The European Parliament of Enterprises has been held every two years since 2008.
The work done during the Polish EU Council Presidency was reviewed and the results were positively evaluated. The Chamber of Commerce of Denmark, which like BCCI is nationally acknowledged employers’ organization with 17 000 members and 100 sectorial organizations, presented the priorities of the Danish Presidency, which will begin in 2012. Denmark will pay special attention to the efforts to tackle the financial crisis. The 20th anniversary of the establishment of the single European Union internal market will be marked. Economic growth in Europe will also be in the agenda with focus on the Small Business Act – a set of measures to support SMEs. Special attention will be paid on the digital market, the new patent system, modernization of the European standardization system, simplifying public procurement rules, competitiveness of SMEs, management of the internal market, etc.
At the end of the meeting a Declaration of EUROCHAMBRES which lays down the economic and financial priorities of the European economy was adopted. Representatives of the Association united around the idea of safeguarding the common European currency as a key factor for future growth and competitiveness of European businesses. The access to finance for businesses, especially SMEs, needs to be stimulated. Ensuring that new financial regulations, either individually or cumulatively, do not impact negatively on bank lending to businesses. EUROCHAMBRES supports the implementation of the 12 priority measures included in the 2011 Single market Act.
