Senegal is among the developed countries in Western Africa. In 2010 the country had a GDP of USD 11.85 billion. GDP growth is slow - 2.7 % and inflation is 1.21 %. The country has high unemployment rate – 49 %. Agriculture /including fishing/ accounts for 14 % of the country’s GDP. Peanuts are the most exported culture. Senegal is the world largest manufacturer of peanut oil.
Industry provides 2.1 % of the country’s GDP. The main industries include processing of agricultural produce and fish, phosphates mining, processing of mineral fertilizers, refining petroleum, construction materials.
Yearly the country is visited by almost 500 thousand tourists. Tourism provides revenue in foreign currency amounting to over USD 200 million. Services account for 65 % of the GDP.
At the moment, commercial and economic relations between the two countries are at a standstill. Bilateral trade comprises mainly export of Bulgarian medicines, machines and equipment for tobacco processing, bio products and conveyor belts to Senegal. Our country imports insignificant amounts of frozen fish and raw sheepskin. There is a good opportunity to give the development of trade between Bulgaria and Senegal a new start.
