Meeting with the Minister of Health

The President of BCCI Tsvetan Simeonov introduced Bulgarian Minister of Health Peter Moskov to opportunities for cost reduction along the healthcare supply chain and increasing patient safety by applying the international GS1 standards, at a meeting held in the Ministry. The Deputy Minister of Health Vanyo Sharkov also took part in the meeting.

The occasion for the meeting was the good intention to reform the healthcare sector in order to achieve more efficient use of the allocated funds, better traceability of activities and to minimize mistakes, which is precisely what the GS1 standards contribute to. The GS1 standards are used globally in healthcare to modernize the supply chain and improve patient safety. Their application increases the efficiency of the systems by ensuring compatibility and interoperability not only with other national systems but with the systems of other countries which have already carried out healthcare reforms. In the course of discussion specific examples of countries which have already implemented the GS1 solutions were given such as Australia, Turkey, France, etc.

During the meeting an official letter was handed by the President of BCCI paying attention to the opportunities provided by the GS1 standards in view of the planned computerisation of Bulgarian healthcare.

On behalf of the BCCI, the President of the Chamber Tsvetan Simeonov undertook to provide for free systematic assistance when formulating the tasks related to collecting, passing and using information in the field of healthcare. The Chamber promised to organize distance training for Ministry officials and representatives of the companies-subcontractors.
