A Conference focusing on the prospects of small and medium-sized enterprises from the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership
“The Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership: SMEs Perspective” was the subject of a conference organized by the American Chamber of Commerce in Bulgaria, Confindustria Bulgaria, in partnership with the U.S. Embassy in Sofia and the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The conference was held under the patronage of the Italian Presidency of the Council of the European Union and was opened by the Deputy Prime Minister for European Policies Coordination and Institutional Affairs Meglena Kuneva. She confirmed the words of Jean-Claude Juncker, the President of the European Commission that Europe would do everything possible to improve the trade and investment relations between the US and the EU. Bulgaria needs a trade agreement as a kind of package of incentives for economic recovery. The Deputy Prime Minister Meglena Kuneva expressed the readiness of the state to actively participate in the negotiation process.
H.E. Marcie B. Ries, U.S. Ambassador to Bulgaria, confirmed that the USA was convinced of the necessity of the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership, as well as its positive effects – export increase in both directions and strengthening the power of the EU and US economies. According to the United States, facilitating the access to the market on both sides of the ocean will lead to economic growth. For our country in particular, Bulgaria’s exports to the United States are expected to increase by 7.7%, according to a study carried out by the BAS.
During the second panel, moderated by the BCCI’s President Tsvetan Simeonov, opportunities and incentives were presented benefitting small and medium-sized enterprises from signing of the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership agreement.
Tsvetan Simeonov summarized the results of a survey conducted among the members of the Chamber as regards the effect of the Agreement between the EU and the USA. 46% of SMEs say that the main effect of the TTIP will be the possibility of establishing new contacts and partnerships.
