Tsvetan Simeonov: Our cooperation with Greece in bio farming makes us stronger on the European market
The Embassy of Greece in Sofia in cooperation with BIOHELLAS and with the support of the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry organized an information seminar on “Greek bio farming – Perspectives for development of the sector in Bulgaria – The role of the certification of agricultural products in the European Union”.
The President of BCCI Tsvetan Simeonov opened the forum and reminded that more and more consumers look for the bio origin mark on labels. At average the market of bio products grows with 10-15% per year. “It is clear that the countries with less land, such as Bulgaria and Greece have no interest and even smaller chances of success in mass production and conventional products – these are spheres for leadership of countries such as Brazil, USA, Canada, which have conditions for this”, Mr. Simeonov said.
In the organization of the forum a complex approach was used – along with producers and traders, representatives of the Institute for Control of Bio Products BIOHELLAS were involved as well. Their responsibility is huge – on the one hand, to ensure better supervision, and on other, to preserve trust in the products marked as bio products. Only then customers will be willing to pay even slightly higher prices, but to receive an ecological product with guaranteed quality in return, the President of the Chamber noted. He reminded that competition means stronger Bulgarian and Greek companies. There is an opportunity for one addition, not only for strong competition and our immediate goal is to provide Bulgarian and Greek consumers with high-quality and reliable agricultural produce. But our distant goal is to become a serious provider of bio products for the entire European Union.
This year BCCI organized for the second time the “Bio & Eco Expo” exhibition for bio products in which Greek exhibitors took part as well. Next year the Chamber will continue this initiative, with the hope that even more Greek companies will participate. The seminar held in Sofia is another step to expand cooperation between Bulgarian and Greek producers, in order for us to be stronger on the domestic and European market.
We mustn’t be afraid and disappointed of hardships which come our way. On the contrary, Bulgarians and Greeks must combine their efforts, because the crisis that our neighbour faces today may come to us tomorrow. Together we must move towards a stronger, sustainable economy. We are not indifferent to Greece – it is among the top 10 foreign investors in Bulgaria with which our country trades actively. That is why Bulgarian consumers, companies and traders want to see that Greece has positive experience, which may be followed, and their products are trustworthy, Mr. Tsvetan Simeonov concluded
