Synchronized application of electronic invoicing in Europe will have a significant effect on economy
Discussions about the state of electronic invoicing have begun at the GS1 in Europe Regional Forum, which is taking place in Budapest under the motto BUILDING TOMORROW TOGETHER. The synchronized application of e-Invoicing in different European countries may have a significant economic impact. Antonio Conte, EU Commission – DG Enterprise, Unit ICT for Competitiveness and Innovation presented e-Invoicing within the EU. It was discovered that there isn’t enough ICT standardization on European level and worldwide. The fragmented digital market, lack of interoperability, cyber crimes and others are among the main challenges businesses and institutions face.
Despite the remarkable progress in information technology in recent years, interoperability is still lagging behind with the development of appropriate tools and applications and remains a key obstacle to the seamless flow and exchange of data, information and services among the European administrations, business and citizens. GS1 is considered one of the organizations reliable for the development of unified global standards. Collaboration in standardization between all stakeholders seems to be the key element for moving forward in this area. As far as standardization in Europe is concerned, there are several regulatory mechanisms proposed – elements of the “Europe 2020” Programme, which covers seven areas and over 100 specific activities, including 31 proposals for legislative changes.
