Tsvetan Simeonov: Hungarian business invests in important sectors of Bulgarian economy

On 8 September 2011, a representative group of Hungarian businessmen participated in the business forum organized on the occasion of the official visit of H.Exc. Dr. Pal Schmitt, President of the Republic of Hungary, to Bulgaria.
There is progress and balanced trade in the Bulgarian-Hungarian economic relations, the President of the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Mr. Tsvetan Simeonov said in his opening speech to the forum. He recommended expanding the bilateral cooperation, while preserving the upward tendency in commerce and encouraging faster development of Bulgarian export in order to balance the trade between the two countries.

The initiative was organized by BCCI, the Hungarian Investment and Trade Development Agency and the Embassy of Hungary in Sofia.
During the forum the business conditions in Hungary and Bulgaria were presented by the Hungarian Investment and Trade Development Agency and the Invest Bulgaria Agency respectively. Besides, an International cluster association for renewable energy, biotechnology and environment preservation with Hungarian participation was presented.
As part of the business forum, many bilateral meetings between 26 Hungarian businessmen and over 50 Bulgarian entrepreneurs were held. The companies from the joint Bulgarian-Hungarian Chamber of Commerce, with Chairman Mr. Hristo Petrov, which provides the link between Bulgarian and Hungarian partners, took active participation.
Both before and after the meetings it was ascertained that Hungarian business is very well accepted in Bulgaria. Mr. Tsvetan Simeonov reminded that in response to our expectations, the Hungarian business focused its investments in important sectors of Bulgarian economy – the bank sector, cellulose-paper industry, electronics and electrical engineering, hotels, trade, etc.

The forum was closed by the President of the Republic of Bulgaria Georgy Parvanov and his Hungarian counterpart Dr. Pal Schmitt. President Parvanov said that business forums are a proven tradition with positive results. The presence of the Presidents is a clear signal that the states support and assist the business without interfering. He noted the excellent political dialogue between the two countries as the most important prerequisite for development of good relations. President Dr. Pal Schmitt reminded that Bulgaria and Hungary are part of the same family – within the European Union and NATO, and our country should be supported to join the Schengen area. The Hungarian President said that he finds Bulgaria an attractive destination for investments and thanked the business. That is how trust on various levels is built, Dr. Schmitt concluded.
