Meeting with the Portuguese business during the official visit of Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev in Lisbon





The President of the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Tsvetan Simeonov took part in a meeting with Portuguese business representatives, which was held on 3 November in Lisbon as part of the official visit of Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev at the invitation of his Portuguese counterpart Prof. Aníbal Cavaco Silva. The trip was in response to the visit of the Portuguese President to Bulgaria made in June this year.

 

During the meeting the economic and investment potential of our country was presented and opportunities for expanding the trade and economic relations were discussed, as well as possible cooperation in the field of education, science and innovation.

President Plevneliev said that Bulgarian economy has shown its strength and has been growing steadily despite the turbulences in the region and the political instability during the past two years. The Head of State pointed out our country’s investment advantages to the representatives of the Portuguese business – growing exports, and decreasing unemployment. Bulgaria has the lowest tax rate in the EU and the lowest expenses for doing business in Europe, the President reminded.

The President of BCCI Tsvetan Simeonov stressed that Bulgaria and Portugal can complement each other in sectors such as automotive industry, production of plastic and metal parts, as well as to compete in the foodstuffs, wine and beverage sectors. He reminded that the establishment of the Joint Bulgarian – Portuguese Chamber of Commerce in Sofia, in June this year was an important step for strengthening the bilateral economic relations.

Tsvetan Simeonov also had a meeting with António Saraiva – President of the Confederation of Portuguese Business (CIP).
