GS1 Bulgaria participated in the GS1 Global Forum 2013 in Brussels
GS1 Global Forum 2013 was held in Brussels, Belgium on 18-22 February 2013. This year’s theme was “Ready For Change?” focusing on the GS1’s goal to speed up and develop new initiatives to fulfill GS1 users’ needs.
GS1 Bulgaria was represented by a Bulgarian delegation, comprising of Mr. Tsvetan Simeonov, President of BCCI and Chairman of GS1 Bulgaria Management Board, as well as members of the GS1 Bulgaria Management Board and GS1 Bulgaria experts.
As product and consumer safety is becoming a major topic nowadays, great attention was paid to the importance of food traceability, as well as traceability of pharmaceuticals and medical devices.
The report of McKinsey & Company "Strength in unity: The promise of global standards in healthcare" was also presented on the Global Forum, pointing out the benefits of implementing a global healthcare supply chain standard, that will lead the way to achieving cost reduction and increased patient safety.
As far as European initiatives are concerned, GS1 in Europe Fruit & Vegetables Deployment Group outlined the need to harmonize the deployment of GS1 Standards in fresh foods across Europe. Various documents on best practices and case studies of GS1 standards implementations in different countries were made available in the online database of GS1 in Europe, eDox and thus making it easier to share and exchange GS1 Member Organizations’’ experience.
Attention was also paid to GS1 Training and Educational activities, as a source of sharing information and learning. In this respect, a wide range of parallel workshops and trainings took place in the last days of the GS1 Global Forum 2013, concerning the implementation of the GS1 standards and solutions in various industry sectors.
