Tsvetan Simeonov: Green and innovative economy means modern factories, high employment, secure energy
For the past several months BCCI implemented a number of projects in the field of innovation. One of the projects which raised great expectations, but still hasn’t started realizing its full potential, is the setting up of a Council on scientific innovations with the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Tsvetan Simeonov said in his welcoming remarks to the participants in the International Conference “Industry and innovation 2011”. The forum was organized for the second consecutive year by b2b Media with the participation of representatives of various sectors – industry, finance, telecommunications, transport, energy, IT, NGOs, media, etc.
Tsvetan Simeonov focused on the actuality of the topic in the context of the Strategy for future economic development, stemming from the Lisbon Treaty and its principles of technological innovation, environmental friendliness, sustainable development, modern education, clean energy and green future.
He reminded that BCCI has been working for the development of intelligent and sustainable economy for years.
“The Council is the result of the mutual work of BCCI and the scientific research centers, including the Bulgarian Academy of Science. As a result we could say that science has finally changed its approach to business”, Mr. Simeonov said, adding “Yes, our priority is to ask companies what type of scientific research they need, whereas in the past the attitude was “we conduct our research, we publish our reports on our website and if anyone wishes to buy them, they are welcome to do so”. The problem was nobody bought them. Even if the launching of the Innovation Council changed only the approach to carrying out scientific research, this would be a great achievement.”
In addition to the Council, a Center for Innovation and European Integration also operates at BCCI. For years it has been assisting Bulgarian companies in finding partners from other European countries. Small and medium sized companies, which don’t have and cannot afford the necessary resources to look for information and partners on their own, are consulted on a daily basis.
Two projects under the programme “Intelligent Energy Europe” were realized by the Chamber. More than 450 builders were trained as part of the project REE_TROFIT which applies the European Directive on Energy Efficiency of Buildings. Under another project of the same programme – CHANGE, which is already completed, 61 experts from the regional structures of BCCI were trained. This makes more than 2 persons in each regional chamber of commerce. The trained experts are available to provide assistance on all matters related to intelligent energy. This is what we call a sustainable development of our efforts, the President of BCCI noted.
The research projects PROCEED and WASTEKIT – setting up a European waste management network, are being developed under the 7th Framework Programme. Amsterdam, Yorkshire and the region Emilia Romagna in Italy are partners of the Chamber.
Finally, Mr. Simeonov reported on BCCI’s achievements in the implementation of international GS1 standards for information interchange in trade. “Everything that concerns the movement of a product, traceability of goods may use the achievements of these standards”, he said. The President reminded that BCCI provides GS1 services for free in order to stimulate companies. The Chamber expects companies to seek these services, to be interested in the new developments which they can introduce in all stages of their production process, including in the sale of products.
For SMEs, BCCI together with partner from Israel, has developed an electronic commerce platform eComGrid. It will be developed in three stages in order to give small companies a chance for independence of large store chains, by providing them with an alternative. E-commerce provides new opportunities for companies to sell their products. Competition is increasing, which is good for business, Mr. Simeonov said. He reminded that by the end of the year the platform is free of charge and all companies that wish to do so may upload their products on it.
