At BCCI Mayoral Candidate Vladimir Karolev Discussed Business Conditions in the Capital
The Management of BCCI held a working meeting the candidate for mayor of Sofia, nominated by NDSV Party, Vladimir Karolev and the candidates for municipal councilors Lubomir Datsov and Lubka Kachakova. The Chamber was represented by its Secretary General Vasil Todorov, and members of BCCI’s Management Board - Lachezar Iskrov, Andon Piperevski, Yosif Avramov and Stanimir Tsotsov.
The interlocutors discussed business conditions in the capital, the use of EU programmes, renewable energy sources and “green technologies”. The Mayoral Candidate, Mr. Karolev presented his views on the relationship between politics and public institutions, which should be based on the three leading liberalist principles – freedom, free choice and equality before the law.
Issues of waste processing and disposal, transport and infrastructure in the capital were discussed. BCCI’s representatives asked Mr. Karolev about his position on the new waste incineration plant, which is being built near Sofia. According to Mr. Karolev, the construction of such plant was inevitable, but it was done hastily and at the moment it is still economically inefficient. In order to increase the efficiency of such projects, active cooperation between the municipal authorities and business through public-private partnership is required.
Candidate Karolev argued that the problem of the municipality is not lack of money, but its inexpedient use in the priority points of the city. At the end of the meeting the parties agreed to organize future meetings in order to discuss other import topics for the capital’s development, such as the need of active green policy regarding buildings and open areas, changes in the way of calculating waste disposal fees and the municipality’s concession policy.
