BCCI awarded the Union of Brewers

 
On the Day of the Brewer – St. Elijah’s Day, the President of BCCI Mr. Tsvetan Simeonov awarded Mr. Ruud van den Eijnden, President of the Union of Brewers in Bulgaria with an honorary diploma for his contribution to the development of the brewing sector by introducing high production standards, quality of products and creating a competitive sector, and for his fruitful cooperation within the work of the Council of Sectorial Organisations at BCCI, and on the occasion of three important anniversaries – 20 years Union of the Brewers in Bulgaria, 130 years brewing industry in the country and 55 years Bulgarian brewing science. 
The Union of Brewers in Bulgaria presented the development of the brewing sector during the first half of 2011 and the priorities for social responsibility of the members of the Union. Currently, more than 2900 workers are employed in the sector, which is 7% higher in comparison to the same period last year. According to data of the National Social Security Institute, the minimum working wage in the sector amounts to BGN 444.
During the first half of the year the breweries, members of the Union sold 2 436 700 hl beer. As far as packaging is concerned – UBB members sold most beer in PET bottles – 58%, followed by glass bottles – 33%. According to the Union of Brewers in Bulgaria for the first time in three years there has been no decrease in the distribution of beer, which in the peak of the economic crisis reached a total of 15 %.
  
The Union of Brewers is a representative organization of the beer producers in the country: "Bolyarka – VT" PLC, "Zagorka" PLC, "Kamenitza" PLC, "Carlsberg  Bulgaria" PLC, "Lomsko pivo" PLC and the suppliers of raw materials and materials in the sector. For 20 years now it has been a part of the sustainable dialogue between employers and trade unions. 
The President of BCCI, Mr. Tsvetan Simeonov met with Prince Luitpold of Bavaria, an heir of the Royal family that has remained in the history of brewing with the famous Beer Purity Law ("Rheinheitsgebot"), according to which beer can only be brewed with barley malt, and not with wheat malt. Gradually, entire Germany started abiding by this law, which until this day remains the oldest European law on beer production.
