Preserving the good relations between the partners after mediation is of great importance for companies engaged in legal disputes
In Plovdiv, the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry held the second information seminar under Mediation meets Judges Project, co-funded by the Civil Justice Programme of the European Union. More than 40 judges, mediators, chairmen of regional and city courts from Plovdiv, Stara Zagora, Smolyan, Kardzhali and other Bulgarian towns attended the event. The seminar was organized with the help of Plovdiv Appellation Court and the Settlement and Mediation Center at Sofia Regional Court and Sofia City Court.
BCCI continues its efforts to promote mediation as a means of resolving disputes. The advantages of mediation proceedings, such as the quick resolution, preserving the good relations between the parties after mediation, etc. are of great important for companies engaged in legal disputes.
The participants in the seminar took part in a mock mediation case – a simulation of hearing a case and approving the agreement reached as a result of court annexed mediation.
During the discussion the opinion prevailed that more information about mediation needs to be circulated among the society, the judiciary, lawyers and attorneys, the business circles and all stakeholders. The need for courts to set up and institutionalize mediation centers in compliance with the Law on Mediation was discussed.
Mediation meets Judges is a large-scale project co-funded by the European Union, implemented in Bulgaria by BCCI in cooperation with 6 more European chambers of commerce and industry, two mediation centers and the European Association of Judges for Mediation. The project is coordinated by EUROCHAMBRES for a period of 24 months and is expected to end in late February 2016.
BCCI will help draw up a toolkit for court annexed mediation schemes customized to meet the requirements of national law, will organize a number of information events and seminars, will provide assistance for generating court annexed mediation pilot schemes such as settlement centers with courts, employing mediators either permanently or on a part-time basis, etc.
