Debate on the implementation of the EU Renewable Energy Directive

The implementation of the EU Renewable Energy Directive was discussed at a roundtable at the European Commission Representation in Sofia by energy experts from our country and from the European Union, representing government agencies, businesses, NGOs and civil society, the Sustainable Development Observatory with the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC). SDO President Lutz Ribbe was among the participants. Debates moderator was BCCI’s Vice President Georgi Stoev.
 
The implementation of the Directive is being studied on six EU Member States: Bulgaria, France, Germany, Lithuania, Poland, and the UK, for which EESC provides with full information.
 
During the debate-roundtable in Sofia, Elenko Bozhkov from the State Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (SEWRC) presented the situation in Bulgaria in terms of the renewable energy sources (RES) – administrative procedures, licenses, access to transmission networks, pricing and market. The integration of RES into the power system of Bulgaria was reviewed by Ventzislav Zahov from the Electricity System Operator (ESO).  
 
Active part in the debates took the representatives of sectorial organisations, such as Bulgarian Photovoltaic Association, Bulgarian Wind Energy Association, Bulgarian Solar Association, and Association of Producers of Ecological Energy.
