BCCI President was re-elected member of the Board of Directors of EUROCHAMBERS
The 114th Plenary Assembly of the Association of European Chambers of Commerce and Industry (EUROCHAMBERS) was held along with the regular session of the Board of Directors of the Association in Istanbul, Turkey.
During the session Richard Weber, President of the Saarland Chamber of Commerce (Germany) and current Vice-President of EUROCHAMBRES, was elected President of EUROCHAMBERS, new Deputy Presidents were elected as well: Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu – President of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey, Pierre Gramegna – General Executive of The Chamber of Commerce of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, Martha Schultz – Vice-President of the Austrian Chamber of Commerce. Election of members of the Board of Directors of the Association was also held. BCCI President Tsvetan Simeonov was re-elected member of the Board of Directors of EUROCHAMBERS for 2014, and BCCI Vice-President Georgi Stoev was elected member of the Budgetary Committee.
In his investiture speech, as President, Richard Weber said: “EUROCHAMBRES will have to play an important role in the years to come – as a strong voice and a visible, well-connected representative of the European Chamber network. If we succeed to effectively support and represent our member companies, we will strengthen EUROCHAMBRES and the Chamber network in general – in our home countries and at European level.”
Richard Weber’s mandate will thus focus on three priorities:
1. Fostering EUROCHAMBRES as an inclusive and thriving European Chamber Network by reinforcing the contacts between its members and facilitating opportunities for them to learn from each other;
2. Positioning Chambers as competent partners in core areas such as SME representation, innovation, education and training;
3. Intensifying cooperation with other relevant European stakeholders.
During the session of EUROCHAMBERS the Organisation’s calendar of events for the year of 2014 was presented, and the two plenary assemblies along with the regular sessions of the Board of Directors were scheduled to take place in June and October next year. A report was presented showing the results of the recent Lithuanian Presidency of the EU Council (from July to December 2013).
