The GS1 General Assembly was held in a hybrid format last week. 280 representatives from 110 countries attended the event in-person in Brussels and online.
The long-time GS1 President and CEO Miguel Lopera, who is stepping down from his position, was sent off at an official ceremony. In 2015, Mr. Lopera addressed the participants in the ceremony held on the occasion of the 120th anniversary of the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He will be succeeded by Renaud de Barbuat, who has been GS1 Chief Operating Officer since 2019. Prior to that he served as Chief Information Officer of Carrefour, France, GS1 Board member and GS1 Board Vice-Chair, and has been a key advocate for GS1 Standards and the impact GS1 has.
Several national organizations GS1 which celebrated anniversaries (from 5 to 50) were awarded honorary plaques by Miguel Lopera and Kathy Wengel, Chair of GS1 Management Board.
GS1 Bulgaria received a plaque in honor of its 30th anniversary, which was celebrated with numerous initiatives in Bulgaria in 2021, including a jubilee conference with international participation and an award ceremony for companies/organizations, numerous free trainings, an anniversary publication and other information editions, as well as an Alley of Roses.
On behalf of GS1 Bulgaria, the General Assembly was attended by Tsvetan Simeonov, President of GS1 Bulgaria and President of the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Tsveta Bratanova, CEO of GS1 Bulgaria.
