Opportunities for Bulgarian companies to participate in tenders in Iraq were discussed
The newly-appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq in Sofia H.E. Kahtan Janabi and the Commercial Attache at the Embassy Mr. Hikmat Shafi visited BCCI and met with the Chamber’s President Tsvetan Simeonov.
The purpose of the visit was to get acquainted with the activities of the Chamber and to discuss the bilateral economic relations. H.E. Kahtan Janabi has been in Bulgaria for two months and is about to present his Letters of Credence to the Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev this month. He provided the latest data about the economic and investment environment in the country and emphasized the fact that there are regions in Iraq which are very well-developed and attract investors, such as the Kurdistan Region, the city of Basra, the regions south of Baghdad, as well as the areas with cultural and religious landmarks which attract foreign investors from the hotels and restaurants sector.
Opportunities for Bulgarian companies to participate in tenders in Iraq (in the energy sector, natural gas and oil extraction, infrastructure, etc.) were discussed. At present, construction of houses is very important in Iraq as more than 3 million homes are needed.
The parties discussed a future joint initiative –a business forum with companies from both countries working in sectors of mutual interest such as energy, construction, infrastructure, agriculture and food industry.
BCCI expressed readiness to assist the Embassy in informing Bulgarian companies about business and investment opportunities in the Arab country.
