New studies and suggestions for reducing the informal sector

The results of a survey on the risk factors of the labour market leading to informal economy were presented at a press conference at the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Their impact in the different sectors and the feasibility of the European good practices in fighting the informal sector in the employment and social security relations were shown as well. The developments presented have been conducted under the project “Increasing public intolerance towards informal economy in the employment and social security relations and preventive measures for its reduction”.

The size of the informal sector is one of the most important indicators for each economy, and BCCI studies the situation for years looking for ways to reduce it, stated the President of the Chamber Tsvetan Simeonov. “We will continue to trace out and suggest measures against the causes for this unacceptable phenomenon”, he emphasized and specified that the results of the surveys under the project along with the proposed changes will be submitted to the relevant institutions.

The studied European good practices cover six EU member states: Luxembourg, Portugal, Ireland, Romania, Latvia and Lithuania. The purpose of this study is to contribute to applying the good practices at a national level as means against the acts of informal economy in the employment and social security relations.
