New project proposal on the settlement of disputes through mediation with the participation of BCCI drafted by EUROCHAMBERS





It is a commonly shared European opinion that, as a tool of settling extrajudicial disputes, mediation has not been sufficiently applied so far. Therefore, nine chambers of commerce and industry out of seven European countries, under the auspices of the EUROCHAMBERS, submitted their project proposal comprising of various activities with the purpose to encourage the mediation’s development and implementation. The European Association of judges for mediation in Belgium and the Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Belgium, Bulgaria, Ireland, Spain, Italy, Cyprus and France joined the project.
 
The Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry will work in close cooperation with the Centre of Conciliation and Mediation at Sofia District Court. 
The main activities expected for realizing the project were discussed end of last week at a meeting held in BCCI with the kind participation of judges Galia Valkova and Simona Takova, in their capacity of certified mediators and representatives of the “Conciliations” Programme of the Centre of Conciliation and Mediation at Sofia District Court. 
 
Among the topics discussed were activities related to promoting mediation, issuing auxiliary articles for the relevant entities interested, conducting meetings and debates with the participation of representatives of the legal authorities, judges and entrepreneurs, respectively members of civil associations and citizens. 
 
There will also be a pilot plan, under which a certain number of cases will be funded under the project, thus the parties interested will be able to obtain free consultations and recommendations regarding the settlement of disputes.
 
Undoubtedly, the information exchange and the experience between countries and organizations who participate in the project, will contribute to introducing good practices and enlarging the knowledge of the judges who practice mediation.
With its involvement into the project BCCI aims to promote mediation’s wider application as extrajudicial means of settling disputes.
