DISCUSSION CLUB with BCCI was established at a Round Table to develop measures to curb grey economy

 


Why Discussion Club?

There are four reasons for the establishment of the Discussion Club and even though I have to enumerate them, they are equally important. First of all, we are aware that unless we change public perception of the occurrences of the grey sector of economy, we will not achieve any success. It is a wide-known fact that society has been neglecting this problem and has been tolerating the grey sector, especially as far as labour and social security relations are concerned. We believe that these tendencies should be widely discussed at various levels and that talks and discussions should be organized, and opinions exchanged in order to change public opinions.
The second reason is that the participation in a Discussion Club evokes a durable sympathy to the members of this Club. We intend to hold round table discussions and events on a regular basis, and to share negative and positive practices, which would be extremely useful for every one of us and for the future members, because membership in the Discussion Club will be open to the public and anyone could contribute to solving these problems.


The third reason is that BCCI really has positive experience to share - a “good practice” in the establishment of this type of structures. More than 10 years ago, BCCI set up the EUROCLUB with the Chamber. In 2002 it was included in the European Commission’s Report as the best example of positive national practice and until now has remained a working tool for exchange of information and ideas related to EU policies, the influence of EU membership on Bulgaria and its economic development, and for discussion of EU matters in general. We hope that with the Discussion Club we will preserve the established tradition and that in the future it will also become a working tool. 


The fourth reason is that the Discussion Club will guarantee the sustainability of our project, because we intend to continue to discuss these issues after the project is officially over. Surely, if on 31st December the grey sector of economy suddenly ceases to be an element of our public and political life, my colleagues and I will gladly change the focus of discussions to other topics.
