Parliamentary Delegation from Indonesia Visited BCCI
Representatives of the Upper house of the Indonesian Parliament – the Senate, and members of the Board of Directors of the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry held a meeting on 9 December 2011, at BCCI.
BCCI’s President Tsvetan Simeonov made an overview of the state of Bulgarian economy, business relations and ties with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Indonesia. He emphasized the excellent cooperation with the Embassy of Indonesia in Bulgaria and noted the need of additional efforts to expand economic cooperation.
The guests were informed of the growing interest from Asian countries to Bulgaria, which is the EU member-state closest to Asia.
The Senators made specific proposals for strengthening of bilateral business relations. For example, in South Kalimantan there are large coal deposits. In Sulawesi, cocoa is grown and chocolate and palm oil are manufactured. In the province of Maluku, as well as in West Papua, interest has been expressed towards cooperation in the field of shipbuilding. The province of Sumatra exports mainly coffee, usually for the Japanese market and rarely for the European. Riau Province is abundant in natural resources, but most of the deposits have not been developed yet. In the region there is oil and natural gas. Despite the abundance of natural resources, people are poor and very few of the villages have electricity.
The guests from Indonesia stressed that in addition to foreign investments, Indonesia needs cooperation in training qualified experts and educating the population to fully utilize the local resources. They presented some of the country’s tourist resources, explaining that Bali is not the only place for tourism.
BCCI undertook to forward any requests for cooperation from Indonesia to potential Bulgarian partners.
