TSVETAN SIMEONOV: Promoting entrepreneurship is a priority of the active employment policy
It is unacceptable to have available jobs and a huge “army” of unemployed unwilling to occupy them or unable to occupy them due to lack of qualification. Enormous sums are spent for re-qualification and we are not against this, but the spending should be more efficient, said Tsvetan Simeonov, President of BCCI.
According to analysts, the new project “Support for Enterprising Bulgarians” has already been criticized. The project will soon be launched under Operational Programme Human Resources. The Employment Agency is expected to grant up to BGN 20 000 to unemployed Bulgarians willing to start their own business, as part of the project.
However, people have trouble understanding entrepreneurship. For more than 20 years after the changes, progress in business management was based on the “attempt-mistake” principle. While administration had chosen this path, BCCI and its Belgian partners very successfully realized an entrepreneurship project, similar to the upcoming project, which had much higher results than expected. A large number of the participants in our project back then were unemployed – 40 %, young people – 40% and about 20% of them were currently employed in working companies. At the end of the project, it turned out that a lot of the participants had started their own businesses, others found jobs and the employed participants increased their companies’ market share and output.
Therefore, the idea is not bad, but it is very important how it will be put to practice. That is why we say that entrepreneurship is a very important skill. The economy suffers immensely from the fact that entrepreneurship is not being taught.
BCCI implements other projects to encourage the development of entrepreneurship and to stimulate the establishment of small and medium-sized enterprises, which are the backbone of any economy. Knowledge about the business environment, creativity, innovative thinking, and ability to take risks are among the key competences necessary to start a successful business, or to develop and socially integrate oneself.
