Opportunities to develop trade with Zimbabwe

According to information from the representative of BCCI in the Republic of South Africa Mr. Raycho Iliev, there is a growing interest for trade with Bulgarian goods and products in Zimbabwe.
For the past two years, the economy of Zimbabwe has been improving, especially since the country abandoned its national currency due to hyperinflation and introduced the United States Dollar, South African Rand, Botswana Pula, Pound Sterling and Euro for all transactions in Zimbabwe.
Public transactions are made in United States Dollars only. The number of restaurants and stores in the country has been growing. Production of tobacco and cotton, export of gold, platinum and diamonds has increased significantly.
At national level, problems are related to the sanctions imposed on the country, according to which Zimbabwe cannot receive funds from the World Bank and IMF for large infrastructural projects, healthcare projects, etc.
An economic growth of 9% is expected in 2011.
Hydroelectric Power Plant Kariba and Thermal Power Plant Hwange in Zimbabwe are about to be reconstructed. Besides, agricultural projects related to electrification and construction of 10 projects for hydroelectric power plants with power 1,5 – 800MW will be realized.
Interested Bulgarian companies can contact Mr. Iliev on his mobile phone (082) 400 72 79, tel./fax: (+2711) 482 82 95 or by e-mail: r.iliev@yahoo.com
