20 wineries took part in the 7th edition of the BALKANS INTERNATIONAL WINE COMPETITION (BIWC 2018)

The Grand Trophy Winner is the Rose Wine Anca – Maria Syrah & Cabernet Sauvignon 2017, Vladoi winery, Romania






The 7th edition of the Balkans International Wine Competition and Festival (BIWC 2018), supported by BCCI, was held on 19 – 20 May in Sofia. Quality wines from Bulgaria, Greece, Macedonia, Serbia, and Romania from a total of 20 wineries – exporters from the Balkan countries were in the focus of the event. “Among the visitors of the event were also 30 wine importers and journalists from the USA, China and Japan”, explained Galina Niforu, Director of BIWC.

The Festival was preceded by a Competition in which more than 700 wines were evaluated. The winner of the prestigious international competition is the Rose Wine Anca – Maria Syrah & Cabernet Sauvignon 2017, Vladoi winery, Romania.

The other Trophy winners per categories are:

  • Trophy for white wine – Ergo Chardonnay 2016, Temet Winery, Serbia
  • Trophy for red wine – Erelia 2013, Rumelia winery, Bulgaria
  • Trophy for rosé – Anca - Maria Sira & Cabernet Sauvignon 2017, Romania
  • Trophy for sparkling wine – Brut Metodo Classico 2011, Edoardo Miroglio winery
  • Trophy for dessert wine – Vinsanto 20 Years Barrel Aged 1994, Argyros Estate, Greece 
  • Trophy for orange wine - Cu Orange 2016, Bikicki Winery, Serbia.

The event was attended by diplomats, business representatives, tourists and guests of Sofia.
