For the third successive year the BCCI supports the Balkans International Wine Competition and Festival
At a press conference yesterday in connection with the beginning of the Third edition of the Balkans International Wine Competition and Festival (BIWC) it became clear that wine producers from the Balkans, Central and Eastern Europe, and the Black Sea region will participate this year.
The event will be divided in two parts. The competition will be held behind closed doors on 5 - 6 June 2014 at Suite Hotel Sofia, and the festival will be open to the public on 7 – 8th June 2014 in the garden of Grand Hotel Sofia.
The event will be attended by 45 wineries of the Balkan region.
The International Contest Jury presided by the Chairman of the BIWC Konstantinos Lazarakis, will have the opportunity to evaluate about 400 wines of the region in five different categories.
„This Wine Competition and Festival is a platform to showcase the best wine producers, to know about them and their wines, and those who have not reached their level yet – let them learn how to be better“, said Mr. Lazarakis at the press conference.
The President of the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Tsvetan Simeonov, noted that the successful realization of the Balkans International Wine Competition and Festival grounds for promoting the Balkans as a region of great potential. He stressed that the Balkans, as united wine providers, hold the fifth place behind Italy, France, USA and Spain, and shared the idea to expand the participation of wine producers of the region into competitions not only in the Balkans.
„Of great importance as a strategy for the wine business not only in the Balkans but also in Bulgaria, is the emphasis that is being laid this year – on local varieties”, said BIWC Managing Director Galina Niforou. She also said that the establishment of the Balkan Wine Chamber is in progress.
