144 years since the founding of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences
A solemn assembly in the Great Hall of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences marked the 144th Anniversary of the founding of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.
Guests of the event present were the Chairman of the National Assembly, Mr. Mihail Mikov, Deputy-PM and Minister of Justice Zinaida Zlatanova, Ministries and Deputy Ministries, representatives of the academic circles and non-government organisations. The Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) was represented by Vice-President Georgi Stoev, who congratulated the President of the Bulgarian Academy of Science, Acad. Stefan Vodenicharov, on the anniversary.
In his speech the President of BAS emphasized the importance of science and education nowadays and said that among the priorities of the Academy is to promote spirituality, understood as a continuous intellectual improvement based on a thorough knowledge.
"Unsurprisingly, the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences emerged ten years before the establishment of the Bulgarian state”, highlighted the Chairman of the National Assembly, Mr. Mihail Mikov, and said that “through all these years, when the Third Bulgarian state went through the trials and tribulations of time, science was one of the main bonds between citizens and the state”.
The Deputy President of BAS Acad. Damyan Damyanov, who was leading the solemn assembly, read the greetings from the Head of State Rosen Plevneliev and from the Prime Minister Plamen Oresharski.
