Opportunities for cooperation with Finland

Future trade and economic initiatives in the focus of discussion with the newly appointed Bulgarian Ambassador in Helsinki

Nina Simova, the newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Bulgaria to Finland, visited the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and spoke with its President Tsvetan Simeonov. The general areas for cooperation between the Chamber and the Bulgarian embassy in the Scandinavian country were discussed at the meeting, with emphasis on European integration, improvement of digitalization, promotion of the circular economy and improvement of the educational system.

The President of the Chamber pointed out that the implementation of BCCI’s Programme for the period 2019-2023 is going well, but efforts should be intensified in these priority areas in order to achieve transparency, security and stability in economic relations, in particular for making progress in the economic relations with Finland. BCCI’s cooperation with Finnish business organizations dates back to 1981, and is very active within the Association of the European Chambers of Commerce and Industry (EUROCHAMBRES) and the World Chambers Federation (WCF).

Ambassador Simova accepted the proposal to organize a joint presentation on business opportunities in Bulgaria for Finnish companies. She stressed that for the successful implementation of all future trade and economic initiatives she will rely on the cooperation of the BCCI due to the lack of a Commercial and Economic Section at the Bulgarian Embassy in Helsinki.

The possibility of sharing experience in the field of education was also discussed - an area in which Finland has very good results. The Finnish experience in the interaction between science and business and the application of scientific achievements and research in the real economy will be very valuable for Bulgaria.

In 2009, the Bulgarian – Nordic Chamber of Commerce was established in Sofia, uniting companies from the Scandinavian countries, including Finland, operating in Bulgaria.
