On the 10th of June in the BCCI there was a meeting of the Minister of Economy of the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Driton Kuchi, with representatives of the employers’ organizations in Bulgaria, represented at a national level. At the opening of the meeting Mr. Todor Tabakov introduced the participants on the Bulgarian side and outlined the main subject of the meeting – the common drive towards intensification of the bilateral economic cooperation. He also made a brief survey of the basic agreements between the two countries, which he highly appreciated, but shared his concerns that the intensity of the trade and of the reciprocal investments are still insufficient with a view to the traditional closeness between Bulgaria and Macedonia.

Zore Temelkovski expressed his gratitude to the organizers of the event for their efforts for drawing closer the two economies and gave a number of good examples of cooperation between Bulgarian and Macedonian companies, outlining that as per the statistics Bulgaria is the fifth in a range big foreign economic partner of Macedonia.

Minister Kuchi thanked for the hospitality of the BCCI and expressed his assurance that this meeting will contribute to the development of the economic relations between Bulgaria and Macedonia, which after a short period of internal difficulties has entered the new stage of stability. In the words of the Minister Macedonia begins a “new era”, in which “there is no political crisis but political power”. The Minister reminded that the common dream of Bulgaria and Macedonia has been “European Balkans” and that now, when Bulgaria has realized this dream – a full-membership in the EU. Macedonia is seeing in its closest European neighbour a model of European state and of European development, which serves as an example for Macedonia, particularly in “energy-consuming” achievements such as the process of harmonization of the Macedonian legislation with the Community acquis, having in mind the gained experience of Bulgaria in this field.

The Macedonian minister of economy appealed to further strengthening of the infrastructural connectivity of the two countries and shared, that in the Balkans.

At the meeting were discussed the opportunities for cooperation by sectors, as the focus was on the energetic, IT sector and on outsourcing in industry, agriculture, oil-bearing plants growing, joint tourism and wine production.

The common willingness of the BCCI and of the Macedonian-Bulgarian Economic Chamber for organization of B2B meetings in the above mentioned fields was underlined.
