Opportunities for intensification of economic relations between Bulgaria and Australia were discussed

H.E. Alison Duncan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Australia in Athens, accredited to Bulgaria, visited the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and held a meeting with the President of the BCCI Tsvetan Simeonov. The talks were also attended by Joanna Kehlibarova, President of the Bulgarian-Australian Business Chamber.

Main focus of the meeting was the opportunities for intensification of bilateral trade and economic relations between Bulgaria and Australia in the context of the concluded negotiations on the Free Trade Agreement between the European Union and Australia. Ambassador Duncan informed that after the conclusion of the negotiation process in March 2026, the ratification of the agreement is expected, which is expected to create new opportunities for business and stimulate trade exchange between the two countries.

During the meeting, prospects for cooperation in areas such as the defense industry, green technologies and innovation were discussed. Tsvetan Simeonov emphasized that the future agreement will create a favorable framework for expanding partnerships between Bulgarian and Australian companies and presented the BCCI’s activities in support of business, including the services provided through the Chamber’s Commercial Register.

The parties exchanged information on the current economic environment and discussed opportunities to promote business contacts between the two countries.

During the meeting, an agreement was reached to organize a joint event with the participation of the Embassy of Australia and the Bulgarian-Australian Business Chamber, at which the benefits of the EU-Australia Free Trade Agreement, as well as specific opportunities for the development of bilateral economic cooperation, will be presented.
