Savina Vlahova discusses with Tsvetan Simeonov topical issues concerning the sector

Savina Vlahova, President of the Union of Rice Producers, President of the Union of Millers – full member of the European Federation of Millers and member of the Association of Grain and Feed Traders visited BCCI. During the meeting with the President Tsvetan Simeonov she said that measures need to be taken to curb grey economy in food production and trade. Mrs. Vlahova pointed out that it is important to defend the sector’s position during the public discussion of the tax priority areas during the period of the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU so that taxes are not increased in Bulgaria. It is of particular importance to ensure compliance of the VAT rate on foods with that of other EU member-states in order to avoid unfair competition between them.

The grain harvest and BCCI’s activity in support of business were discussed. Savina Vlahova also emphasized the necessity of amending and supplementing the Labour Code, highlighting two examples:

1.     The impossibility to sign a three-five-year fixed term contract with an employee in whose education or qualification the employer has invested;

2.     The payment / use of paid leave during maternity leave, as one of the major inconsistencies in the active legislation and practice from the past.
