Chief Directorate Border Police is performing its tasks in the Air surveillance with use of light and average type helicopters. For the purpose of providing effective external borders control and fulfilling the technical requirements for accession to the Schengen area, with the financial support under the Schengen Instrument was established and implemented Integrated System for surveillance of the sea border. Similar system is setting up at the Bulgarian-Turkish border at moment.

The Fire Safety and Protection of Population DG shall be a national specialized MoI structure for securing fire safety, rescue and protection in case of disasters under conditions and procedures as provided by the Ministry of Interior Act and the Disaster Protection Act. FSPP DG shall perform fire extinguishing and rescue activities and state fire and prevention control. The Directorate General shall also implement authorization and control activities over traders who implement fire safety and fire extinguishing products; According to the Ministry of Interior Act, the Fire Safety and Protection of Population DG shall implement urgent emergency rescue and recovery activities, operational flood protection and search and rescue operations; as well as chemical, biological and radiological protection. The Directorate General shall also perform functions, related to early warning and alert in case of disasters and air threat; protection of the population in case of “wartime”, “state of war” or “state of emergency” in compliance with the Geneva Conventions;  shall assist the activities of the Interagency Recovery and Relief Commission at the Council of Ministers; The Fire Safety and Protection of Population DG shall render methodical and expert support on disaster protection to the district executive authorities; shall perform operational cooperation with the EU and NATO structures and the specialized international organizations as well as scientific research activity. The Testing Center of the Fire Safety and Rescue Research Institute at the FSPP DG-MoI is accredited by the Bulgarian Accreditation Service EA. The Fire Safety and Rescue Research Institute at the FSPP DG-MoI has already been a member of the European Group of Organizations for Fire Testing, Inspection and Certification (EGOLF) for six years.

The Museum of Ministry of the Interior (MMoI) explores, studies, collects and represents documents, materials, cultural values and samples, related to the history of the Bulgarian Ministry of the Interior. There are data about the museum activity in MoI since 1907. After 1969 the Museum exists permanently as a structure of MoI. At the moment MMoI has two exhibitions. One of them represents in short basics moments of the history of MoI, and the other one is dedicated to Bulgarian Railway Police. Important facts about the Museum and its activities in the last few years: Regular activity related to the Program on MoI in crime prevention and risk behavior among the young people; In 2009 the team of MMoI created the visual design for the new Bulgarian identity documents and the postage stamp „130 years MoI”; Assistance to researchers, studying different themes and periods of MoI history; The Museum provides materials from its collections and logistic help for exhibition, which will be represented in March 2011, in the European parliament, Brussels, Belgium. The Museum of Ministry of the Interior aims to present to the public in a balanced and objective way the activity of MoI, which is a part of the protection of national security in the sphere of public order protection, countering of crime, traffic and border control, fire safety, protection of the population from disasters and accidents, etc.
