FTC/GRANT The Italian Agency for Promotion of Investments Abroad (SIMEST) implements with the Bulgarian Industrial Association (BIA) a pilot project for joint venture promotion. Under the project the establishment of joint Bulgarian-Italian ventures is supported by providing training and technical assistance. Fifty Bulgarian SMEs were selected among 200 applicants by SIMEST and were included in a training programme. SIMEST undertakes the responsibility to present their activities in order to identify suitable Italian partners. The training courses were particularly useful for Bulgarian SMEs for the increase of their negotiation skills on industrial cooperation and joint venture establishment.

FTC/GRANT To support the small and medium enterprises in the regions of Gabrovo, Lovech and Veliko Turnovo. The assistance to the SMEs is oriented to the following directions: (i) Training, management and technical advisory services to local SMEs of dairy and meet processing industry, fruits and vegetables canning, bakery, production of furniture, mushrooms growing, honey and craftsmanship; (ii) The Foundation has established a guarantee scheme since 2000 for SMEs investment project of the Programme beneficiaries from the above mentioned regions and industrial sectors; (iii) SME support to increase their export competitiveness and internationalization through cooperation with foreign partners, mainly from Switzerland. The Foundation FAEL intends to expand its activities in 2001 to other Bulgarian regions – in the towns Karlovo, Kalofer, Kazanluk and others, situated to the south of the Balkan Mountains.

FTC/GRANT The main objective of the project is to support the export competitiveness of Bulgarian SMEs through two sub-programmes. Assistance to Bulgarian export-oriented SMEs is provided by sub-programme “PROMA” – for development of marketing strategies, participation in international fairs and establishment of business contacts for 25 SMEs. The sub-programme “EXPRO” provides training for 30 SMEs on total quality management of their products and supports the strategic company development.
