The programme also assists the development of regional capacities in promoting SME

implements with the Bulgarian Industrial Association (BIA) a pilot project for joint
venture promotion. Under the project the establishment of joint Bulgarian-Italian ventures
is supported by providing training and technical assistance. Fifty Bulgarian SMEs were
selected among 200 applicants by SIMEST and were included in a training programme. SIMEST
undertakes the responsibility to present their activities in order to identify suitable
Italian partners. The training courses were particularly useful for Bulgarian SMEs for the
increase of their negotiation skills on industrial cooperation and joint venture
