1.3. Veterinary-Medical Control
Duration: upto 30 min.
  At Bulgarian border crossing points, the veterinary-medical control is a responsibility of the National Veterinary-Medical Service with the Ministry of Agriculture and Forests. By the Border Inspections for Veterinary-Medical Control and Quarantine, the Service controls imports, exports and transit of:
  • Animals, materials and products of animal origin, additives, fodder and fodder additives, veterinary-medical preparations.
  • Vehicles, transporting the animals and products.

The border veterinary-medical control covers:

  • Verification of documents
  • Identity check
  • Physical check
  • Inspection of animals
  • Laboratory tests
  • Quarantine
  • Disinfection.

Veterinary-medical control is available only at the border crossing points indicated on fig. 36.

1.3.1. Documents, Required by Border Veterinary-Medical Control Authorities upon Exportation of Animals and Products of Animal Origin, Additives, Fodder, Fodder Additives, and, Veterinary-Medical Preparations
Upon exportation of animals and products of animal origin, additives, fodder, fodder additives and veterinary-medical preparations,

Border veterinary-medical control bodies require the following documents:

  • Veterinary-medical permission for exportation
  • Original veterinary-medical certificate, accompanying every consignment for exportation, issued by a governmental veterinary physician of the Republic of Bulgaria.

    Note:

    1. The products of animal origin destined for export shall be accompanied by an original veterinary-medical certificate.
    2. Vehicles with animals, products and materials of animal origin and fodder are also subject to veterinary-medical control, comprising:
      • Verification of veterinary documents
      • Check of the vehicle for its hygiene, cooling regime, norms of loading. 
1.3.2. Documents, Required by Border Veterinary-Medical Control Authorities upon the Transit of Animals, Products of Animal Origin, Additives, Fodder, Fodder Additives, and, Veterinary-Medical Preparations
Upon the transit of animals, products of animal origin, additives, fodder, fodder additives and veterinary-medical preparations,

Border veterinary-medical control authorities require the following documents:

  • Veterinary certificate, issued by a governmental veterinary physician.

Upon the transit of animals,

Border veterinary-medical control authorities require also:

  • Veterinary-medical permission for transit of live animals through the Republic of Bulgaria. This permission is arranged by the official veterinary – medical authorities of the countries.
1.3.3. Charges, Collected for the Veterinary – Medical Control
The charges collected for the veterinary – medical control are set by Tariff No 8 of Charges Collected by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forests .
